What a mistake I made today, in one sense disheartening but in another sense absolutely fantastic to achieve 150 miles when I originally planned to do 100.

Today I procrastinated as sometimes happens. I woke at 06:00 planning to get on the road for a 100 mile training ride so that I’d get home by lunchtime. In fact there were many things “I just had to do” on Facebook and this blog which inevitably delayed my departure to 08:30 ! a good two hours later than initially planned. That was just the start…

Fully kitted out with new Specialized helmet on new sponsored Specialized SL4 Roubaix from Banjo Cycles I head down the road poking my Garmin computer on the handlebars to set the route for my 100 mile route; all set, I simply moved my brain into autopilot and pedalled away.

Guildford, Winchester, Stockbridge, Salisbury, Amesbury, Upavon, Pewsey, Hungerford… at Hungerford I wondered why 100 miles was taking me so long, it usually takes about 6 hours and I had only reached Hungerford! Then I realised I had set the 150 mile route rather than the 100 mile route.

When you cycle from Guildford and get to the sign saying “Wiltshire” it’s quite something. In my mind I’m thinking that every single mile is great preparation for Le Tour One Day Ahead and I can do this. And every single mile achieves another few pounds for Cure Leukaemia.

The pain I go through in my legs bears nothing to what patients have to go through both physically and mentally when they hear the news that they have been diagnosed with leukaemia. You and I can help change this by raising money to help Professor Charlie Craddock and his team at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham find a cure for leukaemia in our lifetime. Please donate whatever you can and I will continue to train to achieve the goal of cycling 2,100 miles on the route of the Tour de France in only a few weeks time.

Thanks to all of you for your continued support.
